Vědci se zaměřili především na monoterpen citronelal, který by podle nich mohl pomoci identifikovat a léčit rakovinné jaterní buňky. Objev spočívá ve zjištění, že terpeny, které jsou zodpovědné za typický odér v mnoha esenciálních olejích, potlačují rozvoj rakoviny.
